Penrhys Pilgrims
When you drive through Penrhys, you will be welcomed by stunning new artistic street banners at the Penrhys roundabout. Local children from Penrhys Primary School and the Over the Rainbow Playgroup have been busy designing colourful banners to welcome visitors to the community.
Through a series of workshops supported by the Penrhys Partnership at Canolfan Rhys Arts and Education Centre and the Creative Communities Programme, children have thought about what makes them feel proud about their community and country.
The workshops took several forms with artwork, digital computers and children’s hands and feet, all being used to develop the colourful welcome to the community.
Melanie Jones – Pre-school Play Worker from the Over the Rainbow Playgroup at Llanfair Uniting Church, commented 'that the children thoroughly enjoy a variety of activities at the playgroup and painting their hands and feet is one of their favourites. To see the end result on a huge banner, is great for the community but also for the children who attend the playgroup and their parents who are also very proud.'
The banners are a key part of the celebrations to mark the 40th Anniversary of the opening of the Penrhys Village.
